Frequently Asked Questions

Anyone looking for more information about That Health Class can reach out to operations@lessawkward.com. You’ll be connected to a representative of our School Success Team.

We cover Kindergarten through Grade 12.

Each That Health Class lesson is designed to be flexible and run anywhere from 35-70 minutes depending on how the content is used. The decks contain embedded shorter, foundational videos, while also pointing out to longer videos that take a deeper dive into one corner of the content. The teacher notes are packed with examples and activities that allow for pausing between slides to engage more deeply with the material.

Yes they are! We built That Health Class using a 50-tab spreadsheet cobbling together every state’s health standards. Because these change from time to time, we go back as often as possible to update. Importantly, That Health Class is built on a platform called Learn Dash, which allows administrators the ability to turn off lessons. So if a specific topic becomes off-limits in a given area, it is easy for a school to abide by new laws.

That Health Class is plug-and-play: as soon as you have a login, you can access all of the materials. Each lesson includes a slide deck, a set of teacher notes, and a copy-and-pasteable pre-written email for parents that can be sent out before/after a lesson is taught. Lessons also come with downloadable printouts that can be used for classroom activities. We don’t send any physical inventory.

It is! When new information, research, or techonological upgrates land, we integrate it into That Health Class. We’re not reactive, but our content doesn’t go stale. In addition, educators receive updates on the curriculum through our monthly educator newsletter.

Yes absolutely. We have asynchronous PD built into That Health Class, so educators using the platform can learn how to navigate with ease. The PD course also includes best practices for health + wellness teaching, as well as tips for managing a classroom (and communicating with parents!) when tricky topics are covered. We also offer in-person PD for an extra fee over and above the annual licensing cost.

No you don’t. You can skip the deck altogether, or jump over certain slides. The curriculum is built to be as flexible as possible. That said, That Health Class is the first joyful, modern health education curriculum — the slides are packed with fun, engaging content.

That Health Class is divided into three divisions: K-3, Middle School (grades 4-8), and High School. The general structure is designed based on state standards — yes, all 50 of them — and our own experience educating kids (Cara + Vanessa have been teaching in this space for a long time). Schools licensing multiple grades or divisions have access to every lesson in all purchased grades, so if a given 5th grade class is ready for content that’s listed as “6th grade” content, go for it! And likewise, if that class needs some more fundamental teaching, you can pop into a topic tagged for 4th grade. The Middle School and High School divisions are also organized and offered by topic area: Body Changes + Self-Care, Brain Development + Mental Health, and Relationships + Sex Ed.

There are! These are linked in the Teacher’s Notes throughout the curriculum.
