When practicing active listening….

DO:

  • Ask what the speaker wants from you
  • Pay attention
  • Empathize
  • Reflect what the speaker is saying back to them
  • Ask follow-up questions
  • Use inviting body language

DON’T:

  • Offer advice unless you’re asked for it
  • Be distracted
  • Make it all about you
  • Act uninterested
  • Interrupt
